Why the Apple Vision Pro is destined to fail

Apple recently announced the release of the Vision Pro, a digital eyewear solution that promises to deliver stunning visuals and unparalleled performance. While the tech giant's entry into the digital eyewear market has generated considerable excitement, experts are sceptical about its chances for success for a wider audience. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons why we and many others feel the Apple Vision Pro is doomed to fail, and why households/businesses will look for alternative solutions.

1) Limited Integration Capabilities:

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Apple Vision Pro is its limited integration capabilities. Apple has always been notoriously proprietary in nature, and the Vision Pro is no exception. It only works with Apple devices and products, making it difficult for businesses that use other operating systems and platforms to integrate it into their IT infrastructure. This is a significant disadvantage for businesses that need a scalable and flexible digital signage solution. This point is equally valid for the integrated home, if you don't have an Apple based system (which most people don't), how much use is there actually going to be in real world situations?

2) High Cost:

Another reason why the Apple Vision Pro is bound to fail is due to its high price point. While Apple products are generally known for their high price tags, the Vision Pro takes it to the next level with its steep pricing. The high cost of the Vision Pro will make businesses look to alternative products, especially SMBs looking for cost-effective digital solutions, after all having that Apple symbol on the headwear isn't actually going to sell more or x or y products. For the high-end residential market the higher cost isn't as much of an issue, for us at this point it's more about the impractical nature of wearing the goggles whilst in company, more of which later in this post.

3) Limited Customisation Capabilities:

Apple is also notorious for its lack of customisation options. While the Vision Pro comes with pre-set settings and templates, businesses looking for customisation options may find it challenging to make the necessary changes to suit their needs. This can be a significant limitation for businesses that want to tailor their digital signage to their brand and messaging.

4) Limited Appeal for the Domestic Market:

Apple's reputation for user-friendly products is almost unsurpassed by any electronics firm. But bringing a product to market that is so divisive is a mistake in our opinion. Wearing this headset may give the wearer an immersive experience, but does that experience replace sitting in a room with friends and family being entertained together by a movie or sporting event? We think not. Further still, are households going to have spare sets for when guests are around? Likely not. We could go on, but this product seems like it's aimed at the commercial market and for people living on their own and let's face it, if you're wearing these goggles all the time, you're likely to forever be just that, alone!

5) Alternatives:

With the above limitations, the Apple Vision Pro faces fierce competition from other digital headwear solutions that offer better integration, customisation, and affordability options. One such notable alternative is Android-based solution that offers a wider variety of hardware options and enhanced flexibility.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, while the Apple Vision Pro promises to deliver stunning visuals, the limitations we've discussed make it hard for us to see where it fits in either the commercial or residential market place. For most businesses, the high cost, limited integration, and customisation options, as well as limited customer support, do not make the Vision Pro a viable solution (think Estate Agencies for example). With numerous other options in the market, businesses will likely look to alternative digital solutions that can better fit their needs and requirements.

Swapping out a Crestron system for a state of the art Control4 replacement

This particular journey started when one of our teams received a booking to investigate what could be done to help a couple in Kensington, London when they reported multiple faults on their Crestron system. After assessing the faults, we came to the conclusion that a system swap-out was the best, least expensive solution we could pursue. This was in part due to the fact the client had lost faith in their original system over the past 10 tumultuous years. In those 10 years they had seen several installers go out of business on them, taking their entire program in the process (meaning they had to engage a new company and then pay them to essentially re-program their system as they didn’t have the master file). Fed up with “paying over the odds” for what they described as a “clunky out-of-date controller”, it’s an understatement to say they desired a change.

After taking a full inventory of the system and any connected equipment, we re-designed how their system would work, removing unnecessary complications and streamlining each element of control. Within this task, we re-designed, cooled (AV kit runs hot) and re-cabled the central rack system, we knew we would then have the efficient and reliable system they craved. Our teams then looked to add a brand new home cinema experience, again fully integrated with their new Control4 system.

All-in-all, our teams have now overhauled, replaced and improved their A/V and controls experience beyond measure. We also provided them with our superb platinum service package, meaning they have online and in-person access to service technicians if they ever need it.

If you would like to talk to us about alternatives to Crestron and why we believe there are multiple options for less money, greater reliability and more features, please get in touch with us today, or book to visit one of our showrooms.
